• Tips For Formatting Excel Charts

Formatting Excel Charts is an essential skill for any user who wants to use spreadsheets effectively. You must be wondering how this is possible. The answer is very simple, because Microsoft has made it easy to  make a chart in Excel. There are a number of tools that you can use to make your charts look attractive and professional. All you need to do is to select the tool and follow the instructions to format the chart.

If you have selected the Visual Basic for Applications tool, you will see a window similar to the following one. First, you will see an empty chart. Click on the Chart's option. You will see a pop-up window with different charts. In the example shown below, you will see a bar chart, a line chart, and a pie chart.

The first thing you have to do is to choose the charts that you want to use. You can select a bar chart, a line chart or a pie chart. You will find that you have several choices. Depending on your data, the data source and the chart design, you can change the format to meet your needs. For example, if you have data for sales, you can use the Sales trend line format on the bar chart or the log scale format on the line chart.

Now, you have to click on the Format button. The first option is to automatically format the data points. This is an excellent option if you want to format every single data point, but you have limited memory and might not be able to save the format as you go along.

The second option is to manually format each data point on the chart. If there are only a few points, you can use the Points and Summarize button to format each data point. The third option is the Repeat Counts button. With this feature, you will have to click the mouse five times to get the amount of data needed for your chart. Once you click this button will automatically format all the points as you add them. This is also an excellent option if you have a lot of data and you want to format each data point.

Some people feel that they do not need to format the charts every time they add new data points. They think that the changes are enough and that they will format the charts as and when they please. This is not a good practice. The charts need to be formatted even after a single change has been made. You cannot change the formatting options of a chart after it has been created. The data will still be formatted as it was before the change.

To format the charts, first, you have to click on the Format toolbar and then select Chart Options. You will see a variety of options such as font style, color, line thicknesses, width, alignment, and labels. Once you have chosen these items, you can click on New to start creating the chart. The Format option also allows you to enter a label for every data point in the chart.

If you want to edit the value or other chart properties such as the title and other things, you have to click on Format. There are some properties that cannot be changed unless you click on the Format button. There are also times when you have to repeat the same command or key in order to make the chart look nice and neat. However, if you know how to format the charts in Excel, you will learn to do this without any trouble.
